Matching Your Vision To Your Budget
Often I will sit with a client to capture the vision for their wedding before I even ask how much money they are working with. Let the bride and groom run wild with their imagination and foster their dreams. You won't really understand the little details until you can understand the bigger picture. Once we have established what they would like to see materialize then creating an overall cohesive vision is necessary. We call it the design plan but essentially it is a list of every item on the wish list.
The next stage is editing. This is the point in the process where you compare the wish list to the budget that has been established. Like most people in this world we don't all have an unlimited budget so editing is necessary. Just because you have to edit does not mean you have to compromise on the theme it just means that you have to be selective about what is important to the overall picture.
Here is an example of how this came into practice. We recently worked with a bride that wanted a chic modern look with a black and white color scheme. They really loved the black damask linens but covering 30 tables in premium linens was going to push their budget way over. We offered a compromise and a solution. Drape the feature tables in the premium damask linen which included their head table, cake table and place card table. The 30 guest tables? Use less expensive linen. Half of the tables to be draped in black the other half are draped in white. Then using black napkins on the white tables and white napkins on the black table we achieved the contrast that was so critical to the overall look of the event.
The wedding was suddenly in budget and the compromise was actually a wonderful compliment to the bigger picture. Suddenly we had a design element that looks upscale without breaking the bank. The look was big and dramatic really pushing the look of their reception into the wow zone.
The budget is always a critical part of planning any wedding but through some creativity there is a solution to achieve the vision you desire for you special day without first stopping at the bank to get a second mortgage. Working with a skilled event designer will help guide you through the editing process and don't be afraid to rely on their experience. Event designers have put into action many design plans and know what will work and what won't.

How To Launder Antique Linens?
I have some white Irish damask linen napkins from 1913. They are in beautiful condition, but smell kinda old and musty and have a few discolored spots from age. Does anyone else here collect antique linens or have knowledge of their care? Thanks.
Hand wash them in a diluted baby clothing soap/detergent (can't remember the name) and water mixture. Rinse them well, and lay flat to dry. If they are brittle, then you shouldn't be using them. There are sites on the web that can give you more info about taking care of delicate linens.
